Edit: My bad! I had “show read posts” enabled on my LW account, and read posts are correctly hidden when I disable it. So it really seems to be a problem with the new version.

Yes and yes. It runs the bridge and en/decrypts messages locally on your device, so full e2ee is preserved. The bridge still has to login to your messenger accounts, so nothing changes there.
There’s almost no difference to a good Matrix client if you already selfhost the server and bridges. Most of the Beeper client’s value is making it very easy to manage the bridges they host for you.
I don’t think there is anything to be concerned about.
Sublinks will live alongside Lemmy, just like kbin does today. Some Lemmy instances might switch to it under the hood at some point, but as a user you probably woudn’t even notice the change. All the data would be preserved, so your community would still be there unchanged.
It is basically Lemmy written in a different programming language, with more focus on moderation tools afaik. So for users it looks and works just like any other Lemmy instance does, and it’s part of the same Threadi-/Fediverse.
I use Synology C2 backup for my NAS, but they also have very affordable options for PC backups and object storage.
Oh look, the EU threatens to investigate and potentially fine them, and suddenly there IS a way to preserve “security and privacy” with web apps. It’s almost like the initial reasoning for the change was complete bullshit!

I just re-watched the introduction of the first iPhone, and one thing that stood out to me was this “visual voicemail” thing they showed. To this day I still just get an SMS if someone leaves a message, and then have to call my voicemail and listen to recordings one by one. That’s still the norm for standard phone contracts here afaik, it’s ridiculous!
UBI and copyright are not mutually exclusive. Why wouldn’t artists want to earn more on top for the work they do and the value they create, like every other profession?!
I switched the account in the app, so it should use it and fetch content from LW.
