Obviously, the history of Lemmy does have a history that skews left. Why lie about it? But I believe that the left is also supportive of free speech, and that does not mean that they have an obligation to include me on their left wing instances or something, but they at least have some kind of obligation to entertain the thought that it is possible to be on Lemmy, on an instance that is welcoming of all sort of content, and post conservative content without being some troll.
I suppose this strikes home with me simply because I hate the idea of being thought of as a bad faith poster.

Of course, but long before the Ukraine war started, I posted stuff from RT, or Xinhua, or whatever it was, because I felt that some of the best news stories are those that come from sources critical of Western interests that do not fall cleanly into our own left/right dichotomies due to their divergent interests.
I will read a story from any source, even those that are not super credible, partly because I have found so much error by omission or distortion in “credible” sources.
This is where I consistently find myself more radical than even the most die-hard revolutionary leftists – I am just as open to narratives offered by foreign news sources hostile to Western oligarchs as I am to establishment news stories. You would think this would be something that would endear me to the far left who, once upon a time, looked with enormous skepticism towards rags like the NY Times that previously functioned as mouthpieces for the CIA, but…

Authoritarianism is not a left or right thing, controlling speech would fall under that. You should call it out, but also take breaks, understand with as political these spaces are there will be provocateurs are their will be those that are extremist in their views. Take a break from the comment sections if you just wanna get the news or just scroll, you dont have to go full doom scroll.

Don’t let it get to you. Honestly, I say this all the time, and I’ll say it again, once lemmy starts making you feel THAT type of way? That type of way that kinda gets under your skin?
That’s when I put lemmy down and don’t open it for a little while. I can not… use lemmy if I’m not taking breaks from it. Lemmy is just too political, and so are most of the users.
Something I remind myself, just from experience being here, is that most if not all lemmy users, do not want their minds to be changed or their views challenged. If you think about it, that’s why they’re all here.
Political tribalism and extremism is never fun. It bums me out too sometimes bc I just want to have fun here and make new friends. But, I’ve come to the realization a while ago, not to engage with political stuff here. It’s just something I can not do. It’ll drain you. At least it does for me and I use social media for fun so I do my best to stay away from those topics.
You’re not a troll. I know that so do other ppl. Some users are only calling you that to purposefully be rude and hurtful bc they’d never say something like that to anyone’s face. They can be visceral, but that doesn’t mean what they’re saying is true or holds any weight.
We appreciate your contributions on HC. It takes time and effort to post and can feel thankless at times I understand that. But I want you to know you are seen and appreciated.

It is Firday, anyway, and I do a bit of a digital detox every weekend… and this is a LONG weekend, going to spend it with the family and already have a lot of fun stuff planned. Another family may be coming over, and their dad is a punk rocker from back in the day with more tattoos than me (and I got sleeves…!), and I already told him that we might just sit in the living room listening to a bunch of old punk while the kids play… Plus the other good family friends we have just returned from their vacation…
It’s going to be a lovely, long Spring weekend with the tastes of early summer.
So, I will just enjoy the day and have a good, nice detox this weekend, lol. I do not even feel like stepping away right now. ^^
