He made his initial court appearance Friday evening in the Middle District of Tennessee, answering “Yes, I understand” in Spanish when U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes asked him if he understood the charges against him.
Judge Homes set a hearing for June 13, where Abrego Garcia will be arraigned on charges and the judge will take up the government’s motion to hold him in pre-trial detention on the grounds that he “poses a danger to the community and a serious risk of flight” He will remain in federal custody in Tennessee pending next week’s hearing.
“If convicted at trial, the defendant faces a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment for ‘each alien’ he transported,” said the government’s motion for detention, which also contained an allegation – not included in the indictment – that one of Abrego Garcia’s co-conspirators told authorities that Abrego Garcia participated in the murder of a rival gang member’s mother in El Salvador.

Funny they slap these charges AFTER he came back. Man it’s almost like this administration is weaponizing the justice department.

So he is charged with “transporting” migrants within the US? Buses and Ubers also transport people. There’s a big difference between transporting someone against their will and transporting someone who wants to go somewhere.

Bullshit. These are trumped up charges. Literally. They have nothing so they’ve made up some bullshit that anyone with half a brain can tell is just that. It was so bad the chief prosecutor just resigned over it.
They are not trumped up. The evidence is solid. He was driving the truck of a known trafficker who said he traffics people for me.
Trump and his cabinet also said it’s impossible to bring him back… Yet here he is… They’re doing this so that they can try to put him through some farse of a trial to shut up those of us outraged at his absolute lack of due process. He was LEGALLY in the US, and was deported illegally.

If proven in court, beyond a reasonable doubt, sure. See, that’s the due process that we’re all supposed to enjoy. Not being kidnapped and sent to a foreign gulag (which us citizens were paying for btw) without a trial.
I don’t think you’ve ever heard me support CECOT. I didn’t support Gitmo. I am all for a fair trial and for the same the Democrats will have when the evidence comes out.

They have a weird fetish of licking boots. They talk about it all the time. I find it weird and ignore it. The evidence is pretty strong against Kilmer. I didn’t like they sent him to cecot. I think that’s bullshit but we can store him here for the rest of his life once he’s found guilty.
At least it should all come out in court, and thankfully he’s back.
