Students are not being compelled to salute or say the pledge, only stand and be quiet. Teachers are the ones compelled to recite the pledge every day.

It is a law in my state that all students must stand and all teachers must recite. Most of the students recite too, but no one but teachers are forced to.

Yeah, we don’t need a song about war to remind us how we got here, we need a song about togetherness to remind us how we should be.

I’m actually enjoying a little more adventure. I’ve pretty much been watching them in order (almost, but I went Voyager > Enterprise, and did not watch DS9). I like that things aren’t just “problem of the week” and episodes are a big part of the overarching story. I don’t like how everything is so dramatic all the time (seems like a theme of modern-era shows, not just Star Trek), but I do love getting to see epic starship battles in a much more dramatic way than they’ve shown them in the past. I like the idea of the captain being like “x take out their engines, y find us an opening, z get ready to go to warp” - these are bridge officers, so they know how to do it, as long as they know what to do. I guess Voyager had some of that, but it seemed better executed on here.

Also, I love the idea of a mycelium network going through space. It’s a cool idea and I like the departure from the simple warp drive cannon.

It’s interesting because of the departures they took, especially with the technology looking as it does but being pre-TOS (or was it pre-TNG?) and the Klingons being completely bald instead of amazing curly locks, but it’s a refreshing take and I’m enjoying it.

Always try to include an interesting picture with the post. If you’re sharing a URL, sometimes a thumbnail doesn’t show or is uninteresting. In these cases, find a better picture and use that and move the URL to the body of the post.

Thank you for saying this in a more detailed way than I have been. This is exactly right. They built their own leftist haven and became a whole culture of their own, and then became federated. There is bound to be an initial clash, but honestly I think most of the people who hate on them never gave them a chance. All they saw were the shitposts and the in-jokes and you closed the door.

When it comes to dealing with HB users here, my advice is the exact same as dealing with other users

• if you don’t like what someone is saying (because it’s idiotic, obstrusive, or whatever), block the person for some peace of mind.

• if you’re consistently uninterested on the content coming from an instance, block the instance.

I see a lot of leftists (and leaning leftists), even on .world, who would be better off interacting with the users there (maybe blocking the shitposting comms). And outside of those most-seen comms (chapotraphouse and dunk_tank), there is genuine conversation and less shit talking and in-jokes. I believe, with more instances coming in that are federated with them (mine, .ml, and lem.ee? are a couple), some of the Hex-natives are understanding how to interact with curious left-leaning people with unintentionally wrong-headed ideas.
