  • I love chatgpt, and am dumbfounded at all the AI hate on lemmy. I use it for work. It’s not perfect, but helps immensely with snippets of code, as well as learning STEM concepts. Sometimes I’ve already written some code that I remember vaguely, but it was a long time ago and I need to do it again. The time it would take to either go find my old code, or just research it completely again, is WAY longer than just asking chatgpt. It’s extremely helpful, and definitely faster for what I’d already have to do.

I guess it depends on what you use it for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I hope it continues to improve. I hope we get full open source. If I could “teach” it to do certain tasks someday, that would be friggin awesome.

  • People jump on the bandwagon of “social media and smartphones are the problem”. Most people are sockpuppets, and just repeat this without thought.

If you mean indirectly, then maybe.

I think the problem is late stage capitalism, the increase in exploitation and cheating just to get money, and the real and encroaching fear of fascism or fascism-lite.

Inflation is increasing. Cost of living, housing, food and essentials are rising. Overtime culture is on the rise. Why would I be happy when the outlook for most of us is shit? I have to work long hours just to survive and there’s no escape. Buy a house, go into debt for 30 years with the knowledge that the bank is getting massive amounts of free money in the form of interest, and they provide no service other than allowing you to pay an overpriced principal over thirty fucking years.

Work until I’m 67? What’s the point? It’s time to die at that point as ill be too old and who gives a shit anyway. I’m supposed to be appreciative of my 3 weeks PTO per year, that’s when I can go have fun and enjoy life, after that back to working unpaid overtime for a billionaire investor or CEO or whatever.

Maybe social media and smartphones are helping the young see how shit and hopeless our society is. Unless you can figure out how to be a celebrity, or an investor, or a landlord/landowner, you’re stuck working a shit job until you’re old and life is gone. Why the shit fuck would people be happy and want to have kids?

  • Eh, not impossible but not easy. It’s not just “go outside” or “social media is the problem”.

In reality, capitalism needs to be reigned in and we need a societal shift and restructuring of how we do things. A removal of the profit motive from many many aspects of society.

Public and higher education needs to be redesigned from the ground up:

    • Remove the profit motive completely. Free for all, all the way to the top.
    • Emphasize critical thinking.
    • Emphasize finding people’s strengths and what they’re naturally good at, as well as what they enjoy and are passionate about and what society needs as a whole, as opposed to just how to “get that money”.

Health care needs to be socialized and completely removed from the profit motive, obviously. Free for all.

All necessities need to be socialized and removed from the profit motive:

    • The entire energy sector, oil, gas, electric, whatever. No more millionaires, no more shareholders getting free money.
    • The entire information network. Phone, internet is a necessity now. Try getting a job without, or even functioning. Free or cheap and regulated for the benefit of all, no millionaires.
    • A vehicle (crazy!?). Unless you’re in NYC it’s impossible to live without a ride.
    • Housing, food.

Workweek needs to be dropped to 32hr as a transition down to 24 or even less. For everyone. No more dumb jobs. You don’t get to be a millionaire just by making YouTube videos stuffing your face full of fast food, or being a landlord, etc.

So much more. This is pretty damn commie isn’t it? Am I a commie!? Oh well it’s never gonna happen we can all work overtime in pointless jobs making other people rich until it’s time to die, and we can be depressed while we do it.
