It’s amazing how many people I talk to about overpopulation simply that we get 50% of the land (or more!) and the rest of all other animals get to fight over the rest.

Those places are also inhospitable to most life, period. Just because the TD habitable to humans doesn’t make it ours, either.

If that’s the goal, fine. But we know the real reason is profit. If people are getting less, they should pay less.

Libertarians only care about 2 things: lowest taxes possible and legal weed, and they would gladly sacrifice the latter in favor of the former. Anything else is nothing more than lip service.

Universal healthcare means taxes, and that is the one thing Libertarians hate above all. Never mind that it would be cheaper than private insurance. They relish in the fact they can skip buying insurance, and if they get hurt, ERs are required to treat them anyway.

We picked the Gros Michel (before it got decimated by Panama Disease) and now the Cavendish because they can be mass grown, harvested before they are ripe, shipped around the world with minimal special handling, be ripened locally, and can survive all that without getting blemished.

While there are plenty of other bananas, really only those varieties could do that. Bananas cost less than a buck per pound. Other varieties would have to be shipped by air with special handling and cost many times more.

Tax burden is the amount of your income you pay as tax. Poor people spend a larger share of their income.

Pretty well every state charges a combination of those to fund their state. Some have all 3, some rely on just 1. But they all combine to be part of a person’s tax burden.

The problem is, everything literally will revolve around their kids. Want to get together and watch the game? Sorry, all day cocomelon party on tv now. Want to sit around a fire and chat? Sorry, too dangerous for the kids. Just want to sit and chill? Sorry, the kids will be running through the house screaming. Want to hit the new, trendy restaurant? Sorry, we need a place with chicken nuggets on the kids menu. Want to just have a conversation? Sorry, the only thing they can talk about is their kids now. Want to just get together? Sorry, I’ll have to hind time between the playdates/dance/gymnastics/sports/whatever the kids have scheduled.

Sure, maybe that isn’t always the case, but it often is.

The dad’s brother paid for the Paris trip. He had been watching his niece (the older one that counts everyone) while he worked in Paris, and in exchange the brother paid for them to go to Paris for Christmas (and also no doubt so he could see his kids). The brother is loaded, as we also see in the second move, he is remodeling a New York brownstone in midtown.

A Quiet Place is just one of those movies that withstands zero scrutiny. How do those creatures hear regular noises from miles away, but can’t hear breathing or a heartbeat in the same room? How did no one think to try sonic attacks on the creatures with super sensitive hearing before a girl got hearing aid feedback? How did they build all that stuff to be silent without making noise in the first place? If the waterfall and other noisy areas are safe, why don’t they live there? Why I’m the hell would they have a baby in a world where you can’t make noise?

First of all, they are not getting $1.2B. The lump sum cash value is $551.7M. The usually reported jackpots are presented in terms of the value of a 30 year annuity.

Second, those winnings are before taxes. After taxes, depending on the state, the person will walk away with $280m-350m.

Now, sure, that is still an absurd amount, but still like 1/4th the stated jackpot.
