you’re high on mushrooms in the Viking age, the gods are everywhere
There’s been at least 5 mass extinction events we are aware of where I think over 80% of all species become extinct. I’d probably guess one or more of those could do the trick.
Not a designer but I would suggest getting a lamp to light from above/in front and a led bulb you can change the color on to try out different colors, blue or gold color are usually decent. But having the ability to dial in the color is useful to make it suit your tastes. I’ve found some nice lamps at yard or estate sales for cheap.
Honey dipper, lighthouse keeper, lamp lighter, encyclopedia deliveries, phrenologist, and whaler.
Watching the sun rise every once and a while is free. You could probably get a pen and a few sheets of paper to write or draw your experiences. By volume a daily vitamin is well below $1 per day and could have significant benefits if you’re not always eating healthy.
It’s not that intercessory prayer needs to work 100% to be convincing, it just needs to beat random chance and it doesn’t do that.
Natural processes can describe how those things came to exist without needing to appeal to supernatural claims or gods.
You’ve seen things you attribute to a god, but people in other religions attribute the same things to their god and so far I don’t think anyone has shown empirical evidence for any gods, and I don’t know about you but I use empirical evidence when changing my confidence on whether something or someone exists or doesn’t.
Many people have a negative opinion on organized religion because we can see the negative effects believing things without sufficient evidence can have on individuals and communities.
Ah yes, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging laser because that’s how it works.
That’s true, I meant the style of mustard that’s not Dijon mustard but they are both yellow in color.
Based on this thread peanut butter or peanuts goes with a lot more than expected.
Potato chips dipped in peanut butter or yellow mustard. Malt vinegar on eggs. Waldorf salad.
I’ve unlocked the secrets of the universe: two baskets
Anything by Infant Annihilator, it’s only a little nsfw
Yes, https://www.mathsisfun.com/numbers/bases.html has a bunch more examples to show why the base of the number system is always represented by 10, because 10 is a short hand we use for d1*b^1 + d2*b^0 where d is a digit between 0 and base-1, and b is the base. b^0 is always one and represents the first digit at the first position. b^1 is the base, so 1*b^1 = the base. And since 10 is 1*b^1 + 0*b^0 it represents the base in any number base system.
Another way to show the same thing with counting:
Base 10: 0, 1, 2, …, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12…
Base 4: 0, 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 20, …
Any base: d1*b^0 , d2*b^0 , …, d(b-1)*b^0 , d1*b^1 + d1*b^0 , d1*b^1 + d2*b^0 , …
We assume a 1 in the 10’s place and a 0 in the 1’s represents 1,2,3,…,10 of something instead of 0,1,2,3,10 of something because from our perspective we learned numbers in base 10 with 9 digits, but the alien learned 10 means 4 of something in base 4.
The Princess Bride, silent movie comedies like Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplain, or nature docs are my go to sick watches
Huckleberry but apparently they are really difficult to farm.
Yes, it seems right now the only thing holding back that change is researchers treating paid journals as prestigious and adding clout to their name and publishings, and lacking a system to engage in peer review outside of journals and conferences. ArXiv is basically halfway there to registering users and publishing, they just need features for registering as a peer review, engaging for a review, and judging as acceptable or not. Most of that could be covered by votes and comments like Lemmy but limited to an accredited community of peer researchers.
Edit: to be clear not all researchers, some reject paid journals just not enough to change behavior in the general field/branch yet
I think there’s also a general age demographic shift down as the mods and people who care about moderation, third party apps, bots, etc left. Something similar happened during the digg exodus where social norms and consensus around some topics changed, just not at much with the bots at the time. People who remain may not care, or they just may be unaware. There was always some propaganda blindness too in the ‘i don’t use social media just reddit’ crowd.
I am pretty sure there are subsidies/grants/loans for auto companies under other governments too.
Any streaming service that tries to combine ads+sub is just as greedy as cable TV and I can’t support that kind of shitty business practice. Ads free or sub no ads. Cancelled each service as they rolled out that trash. Currently only subbed to Criterion and thinking of resubbing to Shudder.
I find Frank Zappa’s opposition to censorship pretty inspiring and hope this trend continues:
“The biggest threat to America today is not communism, it’s moving America toward a fascist theocracy, and everything that’s happened during the Regan administration is steering us right down that pipe. […] When you have a government that prefers a certain moral code derived from a certain religion and that moral code turns into legislation to suit one certain religious point of view, and if that code happens to be very very right wing, almost toward Attila the Hun.”
