Just look at fitness influencers, atheletes, male and female who have peak human bodies as examples, ppl like showing off their bodies when they are physically fit and look good.
I never got the whole oversexualized angle when it comed to most comic book appearences, they look very tame compared to rave or even gym outfits meant for mobility, do superheroes not need mobility?
Military service members are generally quite fit but they still wear clothes
That’s for safety. You don’t want to be running around in the bush with thorns and sticks and poisonous plants while wearing gym shorts. Plus camo hides the shape of the human body, making you less of an easily identifiable target.
But trust me on this, the military will drop everything to take off their clothes and fuck. I’ve had sex in the back of an ambulance in the middle of a convoy.
So unless the superhero’s power is invulnerability, they’d wear armor for safety
Likely, but not necessarily. Throughout history armor has come and gone depending on advances in weaponry and it’s ability to counter the weapons used in battle. For instance, once cannons and guns were ubiquitous plate armor disappeared because it was heavy and useless. Kevlar changed that to some degree and now it’s back. So not much use wearing armor against jean grey, but punisher, definitely.
It’s in the job description, indirectly.
Hmm weird thing as they can freely choose from a wide variety of clothing
It’s beyond just their clothes. Ever notice how often female superheroes are drawn in spine cracking contortions so they can show off both T and A in the same panel?
Rob Liefield, proportions can be unrealistic and trash for men and woman? That is more a skill issue.
I was taking about poses, not proportions. And it’s way more than just liefield

You know, I am befuddled here.
I’ve actually never seen this opinion before, which must mean it’s unpopular to some degree, unless it’s actually an original thought that nobody has ever expressed before, which would mean that this post would determine its popularity.
We have a universe destroying paradox here, people. If the votes aren’t perfectly balanced at all times, we may be swept up into a cosmic blender!
While i think that this explanation makes sense i also think that sex still sells (also why many influencers how off) and that is still a big reason for how superheroes look.
Now what i feel like what the confusion really is about is whether this “sexy” portrayal is having an effect on sexism or not. At least thats the argument i most often hear.
tiger and bunny is a commercialized approach to superheroes and in that case they do sexualize themselves on purpose (men and woman) since they are eseentially influencers trying to get sponsors. (They wear ads on their supersuits and get sponsors for gadgets)
Ok, but then why would a psychic need to be dressed this way? For fighters that makes sense, but scarlet witch? Emma Frost? Jean grey? They have no need for high mobility.
They are also peak superhuman, I think my post implied their powers make them superhuman, they often just are because of their lifestyles of constant battle? They train at xaviers, I may be wrong but they are always drawn as being ripped for woman because they work out and are constantly goong through survival shit? They may be psychics but they dont just sit around they are active af
God forbid they go on a run offscreen, and my logic was the powerless show off their bodies, so why wouldnt ppl in their costumes, not necesarily that the powers give them perfect bodies, their lifestyles give them perfect bodies.
