I don’t get it, what’s the point in having removable back, screws, screwdrivers if you cannot remove and replace the parts.
So you can change the colour of your phone.
features with a high degree of customizability - you can swap out the back cover, and also attach things like a lanyard.
Ooooh, a lanyard strap… That’s the sort of right to repair we’ve all been after.

It’s so silly. The back is removable with just a couple of standard screws. But the battery isn’t replaceable.
I have only ever had phones go bad on me due to broken screen, broken battery or lack of software updates. They aldo clearly know this.
FINALLY 😍
☹️ no nfc
Yeah this surprised me. Is NFC payment not common in India?
Nah, india has UPI which uses QR codes.
Madness!
Why?
Even a low-end phone comes with a good enough camera for QR which means wider adoption, you need a higher tier phone for NFC.
We have a similar system in my country and I believe we copy it from India, it works and is convenient.
What is nfc?
Near field communication - it’s an antenna that sits inside the back case and let’s your phone interact with payment terminals and the like that support it.
You can add your tap and pay card to your phone and tap your phone instead.
… you could just put your card on the back of the phone too
The phone can support multiple cards, eg credit cards and transit. Those readers usually won’t work if you stack two cards together.
And biometric pin
NFC payments are more secure than card payments.
Thank you
Does this phone have an SD card and headphone jack?
If not then I’m not buying it.
Tbh I have an ipod classic and I don’t use it as much as I would like even having a good set of cans because the wire becomes annoying to me after short time so I’m actually going to mod it to add Bluetooth
I don’t understand the point of this phone. Why are idiots flocking to it?
I haven’t seen any flocking. And idiots certainly still have their regular brands.
I mean, 100k phones is quite a few phones…
Cheap?
There’s no shortage of cheap devices from other well known brands though?
If people are buying this instead of other repair-oriented brands like Fairphone, then they’re not concerned about repairability but price.
I’d love to buy a Fairphone. But sadly it is behind in so many features, that I simply can’t.
-no water proof (sadly a requirement in my profession)
-no wireless charging (why? just why? There is no good reason for them to not include that, especially as it is finally adopted by a lot of spaces, e.g. in airline seats, etc.)
- mediocre camera
I counted the days towards Fairphone releasing the featureset of the Fairphone 5 and was so disappointed.
I am up for other recommendations, though. The first person to name google will be downvoted, though. I literally wrote my lawyer yesterday as they are treating service cases in a illegal manner.
Waterproof and repairability are really at odds.
They really aren’t: it’s just going to add a little thickness, weight, and cost to the phone. Screws and gaskets aren’t exactly rocket science.
Yeah, but it’s possible - maybe not everything, but for a lot of components it is possible.
Fairphone isn’t available in many parts of the world. CMF’s sales are boosted a lot by it’s presence in India where Fairphone is not an option.
They could be concerned about both.
It is the phone everyone deserves but should not be the one you want. It only creates more waste without being reparable.
In my opinion this an amazing looking phone that I could use without a case, if needed just buy a new back and stick it to the phone. For me the only problem is the lack of NFC (no Google pay). Strange move by Nothing to not include it.
