A family member put on a game show that included Brian Blessed and I commented it ‘must be old as he’s been dead for a while’?
Nope. 88 and going strong.
Who else has surprised you?
Dick van Dyke turns 99 in a few weeks.
I swear to God he’s the first person that came to mind, and here it’s currently the first post - thank you for reminding me that he’s still alive!
Kick your knees up, step in time!
Mel Brooks. He turned 98 this year.
Bob Barker only died a year ago. I thought for a long time he had gone in, like, 2010 or so.
Donald trump. Unfortunately.
You… thought Donald Trump was dead? Unless you don’t live on this planet, I don’t believe you.
Might have been a joke.

I’m making a note here, huge success
Weirdly when I open that in instance I only see one post but if I open the full link, I see plenty
James Earl Jones prior to him actually passing away.
Yes. I think his character dies in one of the Jack Ryan films (clear and present danger?) and for years my brain thought that was real life…
I had the opposite situation with Jim Varney/Ernest. I was so sad when I found out why there weren’t any new Ernest films at the time :(
jim varney was a gem. he also made an amazing jed clampett in the beverly hillbillies movie. just an all around funny guy. he reminded me a little of jim carrey in the way they portray physical comedy all over their face.
Whenever we would hear “Crimson and Clover” growing up, my dad would comment how Tommy James (the singer) killed himself in the 70s. Cut to like 5 years ago when I see Tommy James, in his 70s, still kickin’, on some random public access programming lol.
My dad has been repeating this “fact” for so many years that there’s a solid chance he’s forgotten it isn’t true and still says it whenever he hears “Crimson and Clover.”
His character in The Blacklist did perish.
Brian Blessed (88) is still alive, so is John Rhys-Davies (80). But we did lose large, loud, Scotish actor Robbie Coltrane (72). :(
Morgan Freeman.
Though in hindsight I realized he probably would’ve given his own eulogy.
he is 88 and still alive
Not gonna say because I don’t want to jinx it
OJ SIMPSON
Abe Vigoda
… oh wait, he did actually finally die in 2016
I thought Mr dress up was dead for years before he actually died . Pretty sure that was just a Canadian show so most people probably have no idea what I’m talking about . But he was like Mr Rogers and made lots of cool things with construction paper and glue .
Poor Americans don’t know what they missed out on. There’s a very small list of people who I would legitimately call “Canadian Treasures” and he’s pretty much at the top of it.
The kicker is, he was an american who came to Canada to help Mr. Rogers develop a Canadian version of his show, and then decided to stay.
He came to my small town and did a show there. Huge highlight of my childhood. My sister got an autograph for me, but I lost it somewhere. Such a great show.
Also keeping with the theme of Canadian Treasures who moved here from America, I thought Robert Munsch had passed away, but turns out he’s still kicking. Though he’s come out and said that he is suffering from dementia and no longer able to write.
One of my earliest school memories is him coming to read to us in the school library.
